Afriski Mountain Resort ski resort:
“Expensive!
Stayed in Tyrol accommodation. Toilet seat broken. One of the electric blankets on double bed not working. Foyer of Tyrol was flooded. Rooms are not serviced daily. I was told by the staff member on duty that they only serviced rooms every 3 days. No safe in rooms.
No wifi in rooms,only at the restaurant. Tyrol is walking distance to the restaurant. But I activated an eSim which solved the wifi problem, and Hotspot-shared it with my family. No TV in Tyrol. No hairdryer and helpful. Must make supper reservations to get a table.
Staff in restaurants, reception and retail stores all very friendly.
Would recommend the ski-ing lesson for beginners, that comes with kit hire, tube rides and bum board rides for the day. Expensive but worth it.
The ski-lift didn't work on the tube/bum board piste, was so the ticket wasn't fully utilized.
The ski-lift on the main ski piste was also not working.
The experience of driving through Lesotho via Sani Pass to Afriski, and then via Katse Dam on the outward journey made Afriski a nice 3 night stop over, but I wouldn't recommend a long stay over due to costs of accomodation and dining, lack of maintenance and lack of connectivity if it's something that is necessary.
But an holiday experience that we are glad we did!”

Whakapapa ski resort:
“I love this mountain and always will. I may have a different perspective to many because I always stay in one of the ski lodges on Whakapapa. Staying on the mountain is a beautiful experience. I took a party of 10 to stay at our lodge in August 2023 and we all had an amazing time, it was a great snow season. We tried the same again in August 2024 but the snow gods were not forthcoming. However, we improvised and did bush walks, hot pools and other activities to make up for the lack of snow and conditions. I have been coming here since I was a tiny tot in the late seventies so my views are the same, always a great experience at Whakapapa.”

Erciyes Ski Resort ski resort:
“Erciyes is very different from the alpine resorts. Quieter, more family oriented, all above the treeline, decent snow (on out March visit), very little apres ski. Maybe Obergurgl would be the closest comparator.
The option of staying in Kayseri and using a hire car or taxi ir bus to travel up and back each day might make more sense than staying in resort for most westerners. Kayseri has more nightlife, and has a few sights to explore if there is a whiteout or a claggy day on the mountain.
Yes, there are decent hotels in resort eg the Radisson Blu and the Kaf. But not a huge lot of nightlife. NB some hotels are alcohol free.
If you fancy a change in your skiing holidays then maybe give it a whirl. Especially if you fancy visiting Cappadocia for some amazing landscapes, hiking/walking, hot air balloon rides, horse riding, and cave houses.”
